杨姓也是一个荣耀而古老的姓氏。不过，关于杨姓的来源，历来众说纷纭，有说是因官得姓的，有说是以地命氏的，很不容易找到头绪。然而，有一个被公认的事实——杨姓出自姬姓，是周文王的子孙，更是黄帝的后裔。 　　《姓纂》上面说：“周武王子唐叔虞封于晋，出公逊子齐，生伯侨，天子封为杨侯；子国，以国为姓。”根据这段记载。可知杨姓是出自周武王，也就是周文王的众多儿子中，最为神气的一房。 　　由伯侨所建立的杨国，当时的位置，在今山西省洪桐县的东南，因此杨姓的发源地，应该是在山西。后来，到了春秋时代，杨国被当时五霸之一的晋国所吞并。 　　不过，《唐书宰相世系表》的说法，却跟《姓纂》有点出入。该书虽然也认为杨姓是出自姬姓，但却指出最初以杨为姓的，是周宣王的儿子尚父，而不是来自晋国的伯侨。也就是被周朝王室封为杨侯，因而以官得姓的是尚父，而不是伯侨。 　　杨姓汉人于1000多年以前在长江以北繁衍。当时，杨氏就是一个出人头地的显赫家族，出了不少在历史上知名的人物，像战国时以主张“拔一毛以利天下，不为也”，而跟主张兼爱的墨子大唱对台的杨朱；隋朝的开国皇帝杨坚等等，都是大家所熟知的人物。
